Not one of the teams on my current programme reports to me. Several sit inside the same organisation, under different leads. The rest belong to partner organisations, in three different countries. That is not an unusual situation. It is the normal condition of programme work above a certain size — and most of the advice about it is wrong.

On my current programme I have written more than forty-seven standard operating procedures from nothing. Not improved, not consolidated — written, because none existed. Most of what I now believe about documentation I learned by getting it wrong in the first ten.

In my post about reading methods for printed books I emphasized that the manual transfer of the marked statements is very high. To optimize this issue I would like to show you an approach for digital books.

Who looks at my reading backlog will notice that it is quite long and is constantly growing larger. I’d like to show you how I extract the hypothesis of the books and how I try to assure that I remember most of the knowledge that is in the book. For this, I am currently using multiple labeling methods with colour codes and if I would like to find the knowledge that I am looking for I can easily identify it with the colour.
